Well…it all depends. Realistically, a pretty basic site will usually take between 2-3 months to complete. Other agencies may say that they’ll have your site up in “48 hours” or “less than 7 days”, but there is more to the story than meets the eye. If an agency had all of the content, graphics, etc. from the moment the project started, a site could definitely be built in that amount of time, but our experience tells us that that is rarely if ever the case (we haven’t seen it yet). Physically it may only take us a week or two to construct the site, but it may take a couple of weeks for the content to be created initially; someone from your team may be out of town for a week; your graphic designer may be on vacation and unable to send the logos that we need to us for a couple days. A lot of things can happen and we’d rather be honest and upfront about the reality of a project than try to sell you on a quick turnaround and then explain all of the reasons that it is going to be late.
Another consideration is the scope of the project. Obviously a compact car is going to take less time ot wash than a cement truck, regardless of how long it takes to get the soap. This is also the case with a website or other project; a 4 page site will take less time to create than a 20 page site. One of the advantages that we have over other agencies or individual contractors is that we have a group of specialists who can work on multiple pieces of the website simultaneously. For example, if your webpage developer is also your database developer, than he/she can only work on one section of the site at a time, whereas we will have a webpage developer and a separate database developer working on project, thus cutting down the overall project development time.
